The four crew members of NASA’s Mars simulation recently marked 200 days into their 378-day Red Planet mission on May 7.

Momenteel bevindt de bemanning zich in een gesimuleerde periode van twee weken zonder signaal, die een communicatiestoring tussen Mars en de Aarde nabootst.

Currently, the crew is in a simulated two-week loss-of-signal period that mimics a Mars-Earth communications blackout.

Deze storing treedt op wanneer Mars achter de Zon schuift, waardoor alle contact tijdelijk wordt geblokkeerd.

This blackout happens when Mars moves behind the Sun, temporarily blocking all contact.

Gedurende deze uitdagende periode moet de bemanning autonoom werken, zonder direct contact met de missiecontrole.

During this challenging time, the crew must work autonomously, without any direct contact with mission control.
